Bust out the sweaters and riding boots, light all the pumpkin and apple-spice scented candles and get ready to order whatever latest cozy fall concoction Starbucks has cooked up, it is FALL, people! As you get ready to watch the leaves turn and soak up all that fall has to offer, here are a few of our favorite family activities to get everyone involved in the changing season fun before winter hits and the leaves are all gone. Here are the best things about fall…in our opinion.
If you’ve lived in Colorado long, you know the fall colors are not to be missed and are among the best things about fall. From September through early-mid October you can catch those signature Aspens turning a stunning golden. Mixed in with the bright reds and oranges and a ridiculously gorgeous mountain range, it’s a sight you don’t want to miss come Fall. Heading to Estes or Rocky Mountain National Park are great options for a fun family weekend of hiking and gorgeous sites. Or you can head to Kebler Pass or the Maroon Bells for something a little further out with breathtaking views and Aspens galore. Pack some hot chocolate in a thermos, layer up, and get out there!
These are a little harder to come across in Colorado, but they definitely exist and they are worth getting to in the fall. Sometimes you can pick your own bushel, but even if that’s off the table, there are bound to be delicious, fresh, homemade apple goodies of all kinds at an orchard and you do not want to miss out on that local produce goodness.
Halloween is fast approaching and that means pumpkins are just about ripe for the picking. There are few family traditions more exciting than heading to the pumpkin patch and letting the little ones pick out their very own pumpkin to take home and carve into spooky, goofy, or just plain artistic jack-o-lantern’s for the season. Even better? Don’t toss the seeds from the “guts,” clean ’em off, toss a little salt and roast ’em up.
Cozy Family Time
There are endless adventures to go on this fall, but one of the best things about fall is how the cooler weather prompts everyone to cuddle up inside. Make family movie night a thing again, or spend a Saturday baking together with the windows open and the chilly fall air floating through the kitchen. Fall is the perfect time for some quality family time, so milk every moment!
Given the gorgeous backdrops and still moderately temperate weather available to the front range in the fall, it’s also the perfect time for some family portraits. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to get those adorable shots of the family laughing and bonding while having an all-out leaf war with one another, now’s the time to book your family session and capture some of those sweet memories to last a lifetime.
