Make the Most of the New Year

make the most of the new year

Whoa, can you believe it’s already the end of 2017?? We sure can’t. This year went by so fast and was filled with so many amazing things thanks to all of you out there in the Monty Nuss family. We’re so grateful for you and to share the gratitude on a deeper level, we thought we’d give you a few of our favorite tips for this time of year and for preparing to make the most of the year ahead.

Look back on 2017

Every good plan starts with reflection. Take a little extra time this holiday season, before the clock strikes midnight on the 31st, to look back at the year you had. Whether that was good, bad, or some crazy, unique mix of the two, it’s important to remember where you were when the year started and how much you’ve grown, seen, and done since then. Reliving the memories of the previous year is not only a quick way to fill your heart and relish in the great moments you shared with the ones you love, it’s also the perfect way to get in the mindset of gratitude that is perfect for propelling your forward into our next tip.

Plan ahead for 2018

Resolutions are so 2017, we like to look at planning ahead instead. Resolutions are so often these grand statements that are really hard to achieve when you look at the list a week later. If you want to start with your big list of things you’d love to accomplish in the Earth’s next trip around the sun, that’s totally cool, but make sure you give yourself the time and space to break those big grand items down into smaller, easily achievable chunks. You can break it out into monthly checkpoints, weekly, or even daily habits you want to keep up throughout the year. Instead of “I want to lose weight and get healthier,” make it actionable – “I want to exercise 3 times a week in January and cook at home 4 days a week.”

Another part of planning ahead for the next year we love is to make a dream list of at least 5 new things you want to do/travel/see. But instead of just jotting them on a post it, never to be seen again, put them on your calendar for a date, or in your planner, and work toward making them happen or having enough funds saved up to make them happen by that date. After all, making the most of your new year isn’t just about self-improvement – it’s about having all the experiences you’ve always wanted.

Don’t Overthink it

This is the big one. It’s so easy to get caught up in the planning of it all, the big dreams and the fear of falling short. The new year always feels like this blank slate, a fresh start, a completely empty page for you to write whatever story you want on. We get it, but remember – life happens. Don’t lose sight of what you want to accomplish, but don’t forget to have fun (and document it!) along the way. Some of life’s best moments happen when your plans fall apart, so try not to get too into your head about it.

Get out there and make 2018 everything you want it to be, we’ll be right here to help you capture the moments every step of the way!
