Denver Summer Fun – Things to Do
It’s summer in Denver again – school’s out, free time is everywhere and the weather is pretty much begging you to spend some time outside. With the sudden freedom from schoolwork and (most) responsibilities, it’s easy to get a little bored in the summer. Don’t worry! Your favorite Denver Photographer (we hope), has some ideas for Denver Summer fun. So, we’ve created a summer bucket list full of things to do in and around the Denver area to make this your best summer yet.
Cherry Creek Arts Festival
July 1-3 in North Cherry Creek the arts festival brings together a whole host of local artists and makers alongside delicious food and drinks to keep you occupied all afternoon. It might even inspire you to create some art of your own!
What’s a summer vacation without a trip to the water park? From Fourth of July fireworks to regular events and everyday waterslide shenanigans, Elitch’s is the perfect place to spend one of Denver’s more scorching summer days. Also, nothing says Denver summer more than spending a day with friends riding roller coasters and taking in one many Elitch’s concerts.
Film on the Rocks
Fewer places are more iconically Denver and the Front Range than Red Rocks. Every summer the amphitheater hosts a film series called Film on the Rocks. From Dirty Dancing to Bridesmaids to The Lego Movie and even the latest Star Wars installment (yay!), this summer’s lineup is not to be missed. Get together a group of friends and spend an evening taking in the beautiful sunset over the city while one of your favorite movies plays on the stage screens.
The Big Wonderful
The Denver outdoor bazaar that started in RiNo and has since moved to the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, The Big Wonderful has been getting a lot of buzz recently. Filled to the brim with local vendors and live music, it’s the perfect place to spend the weekend. The next bazaar will take place July 7-9.
Tattered Cover Book Store
Let’s face it, some days are just too hot to spend outside. On those days, it’s the perfect time to head to Colfax or the 16th St. Mall and tuck into a Tattered Cover bookstore. Now that you’re free from the required reading of the school year, why not dive into a new novel you actually WANT to read for once?
Head out on a hike and see some dinosaurs (or what’s left of them anyway) at Dinosaur Ridge. If the dino hike is so “been there, done that” for you, Google a new trail and get out there and explore those Rocky Mountains. As Coloradans, we’re lucky enough to have some of the best views basically in our backyards, so it would be a shame to let summer pass without getting out in it!
Have a Photoshoot
Summer is the time when you get to soak up being with your friends as much as possible. Why not ham it up and make those memories last with a best friends’ photoshoot (BFF session)? As you head into the final years of high school, having some of these moments captured forever makes the transition into college easier.
