Summer in Denver is officially underway and that means that concert season is in full swing. One of the best parts of living in a city that gets 300-plus days of sunshine a year is that the outdoor concert life is robust and varied. No matter what your music tastes may be, there is no doubt that you can find something perfect for you to see – inside or out – this summer. But if you’re not sure where to start, here are some of the highlights across genres that we’re looking forward to.
July 2: Shawn Mendes – Pepsi Center
With Alessia Cara as his tour mate, this show is bound to be soulful, bright, and have you dancing the entire time. It might not be an outdoor concert, but Shawn Mendes promises to utilize his stadium-power voice to the fullest extent on this impressive tour.
July 25: Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto the Tour 2019 Accompanied by the Colorado Symphony – Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Tenacious D is – well, hard to explain, but really all you need to know is that Jack Black is at the helm of this hilarious and, often a little raucous, band. On this tour they will be accompanied by the Colorado Symphony, and considering they are playing at Red Rocks, there is no doubt that the sound will be unforgettable, epic, and face-melting in the most fantastic way.
July 27: Sad Summer Fest Featuring The Maine, Mayday Parade, and State Champs – Sculpture Park
Denver and the Front Range has a number of music festivals to choose from, but one we’re looking forward to this year is the Sad Summer Fest that will take place in Sculpture Park. For pop punk and rock fans, this is one you won’t want to miss. Featuring The Maine, Mayday Parade, and State Champs alongside lesser known names like Mom Jeans, Stand Atlantic, Just Friends, and L.I.F.T., this day-long fest is hosted by the finest purveyors of emo music throughout the country – Emo Nite – and promises to be a hit for fans of the genre.
August 8: Billy Joel – Coors Field
There’s nothing quite like a classic show with a musical legend, and that’s exactly what’s coming to Coors Field late this summer when Billy Joel takes the stage for a one-night only event that is bound to bring down the house. Even though he really needs no introductions, Billy Joel is famous for his mega-hits like “Big Shot,” “Uptwon Girl,” “You May Be Right,” “Vienna,” “Piano Man,” “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” and so much more. Even if you don’t think you’re a Billy Joel fan, you probably are. If you get the chance to see this one live, don’t miss out!
August 15 – 17: Mumford & Sons – Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre
For fans of music with a chill vibe and venues that match, Fiddler’s Green is where you’ll want to be between August 15 and the 17th when Mumford & Sons takes the stage with a variety of opening acts the likes of Lord Huron. With a folk-rock sound that keeps people coming back for more well beyond their most famous hits, this show is perfect for a mid-August evening.
No matter what type of music you’re into, the Denver area has plenty to offer from the larger venues listed here to smaller bars and parks that offer a variety of bigger name and local bands throughout the summer. What shows are you looking forward to this season?
